What You Must Have For Your Man Cave

Man CaveIf you’re considering remodeling your Pittsburgh home this year, it’s important to consider a man cave. Every guy needs a space he can call his own, especially when the wife has decorated the rest of the house. Whether it will be in the garage, basement or a special room designated for your stuff, it needs to be your own.

Making your man cave yours means you have to consider the most important features. Don’t be swayed by something that might look good to someone else. This is your man case and needs to be designed/decorated by you. Here are five of the most important things to have when you design your new man cave.

Manly Decor

Whether you’re into sports, guns, hunting, fishing or all of it, you need to decorate your man cave accordingly. The wife doesn’t get say in this part of the home decor. Let her have the rest of the house, but let your man cave remain manly with plenty of great decorations.

If you’re a huge fan of Pittsburgh sports, make sure you get plenty of posters, memorabilia and other types of items into your man cave. Those with a thing for hunting can choose lamps made of gun shells, deer heads and other types of hunting decor. Regardless, make sure it fits with a manly theme you love.

Keg and/or Mini Fridge

Mini FridgeEven if the kitchen isn’t far from your man cave, you need easy access to drinks and food. A keg fridge will do wonders for any man cave, but you may also want a mini fridge. It’s important to provide easy access to your beer and you also want somewhere to keep some snacks for the big game.

If you have room or you’re designing your own home, you may want to consider a walk-in beer cooler. This will go a very long way to making your man cave one of the best in the neighborhood.

Odd or Unique Furniture

No frilly items and no flowers should be found on your man cave furniture. Instead, this sanctuary needs to have functional, unique furniture built for your comfort. If you want a lounge chair with a bit Pittsburgh Penguins logo on it, get it.

You have so many choices out there and sometimes simple leather can be the right choice. Make sure it’s comfortable and don’t spare expense when it comes to your seat. You need to be able to enjoy escaping into your man oasis and a great piece of furniture can make a huge difference.

Entertainment

While the most obvious choice for your man cave should be a large TV, there are other things you can add to make the entertainment great. Pinball machines, darts, a pool table (if you have room) and even old arcade games can be great for a man cave. Of course, a simple poker/card table might be the perfect choice, too.

There are several options and if you are limited on space, you can always add a gaming system to your flat-screen TV. In addition, some card tables fold up and can be put out of the way when it’s not time for poker.

A Bar or Alcohol Shelf

Liquor ShelfIf you have room, a built-in bar is a great choice. It can provide you with easy access to alcohol and give the man cave a great feel. Even if you don’t have room for a bar, you can create an alcohol shelf for all the bottles and specialty choices. This can add a great touch to your man cave and can even be back-lit to stand out.

Stocking the bar is important, as well. You want to make sure you choose liquors for making manly drinks, such as whiskey and scotch. Consider your own tastes and don’t feel like you have to fully stock your bar if you don’t care for gin or rum.

The man cave needs to be a sanctuary for dad/husband to escape to when he needs to get away. It’s also a great place for a man to entertain his buddies, enjoy sporting events and talk like a man away from the kids.

In addition to the list above, you may want to consider an upgraded air purifying system if you plan to smoke cigars in your man cave. If this is the case, a nice humidor may be an addition to consider, as well.

There are so many different ways you can go with a man cave and every man is different. You don’t have to go with the ordinary. Instead, tap into your own tastes and create a space perfect for you to enjoy.
